ESPRIT EDGE: Modern sheet metal machining centre CAM solution
ESPRIT EDGE represents Hexagon’s latest developments in CAM technology, combining traditional CNC programming with advanced artificial intelligence and digital twins. The software is designed to meet the requirements of modern machining, where manufacturing processes must be faster, more accurate, and more automated than ever before. It is not just a tool for creating machining routes, but a comprehensive manufacturing ecosystem that seamlessly manages everything from basic milling to the most complex multi-purpose machines and Swiss-type long-sided milling machines. Utilizing cloud services, real-time data, and precise machining environment modeling, ESPRIT EDGE bridges the gap between design and physical manufacturing, enabling high productivity without costly trial runs or collision risks.
Key Technological Features
ESPRIT EDGE is based on three key technological pillars that streamline the machine shop’s daily routine:
-
Artificial Intelligence-Based ProPlanAI: The software utilizes artificial intelligence to design cutting strategies. It can automatically arrange machining steps in the optimal order, identify the features of the workpiece, and select the best tools and methods for them.
Genuine Digital Twin: The system includes an accurate virtual model of the machining center, tools, and fixtures. The software simulates the specific final G-code, ensuring that the program verified in the virtual world functions identically and safely on the machine.
Machine-Specific Optimization: Unlike generic CAM software, ESPRIT EDGE uses factory-fitted postprocessors. This means that the code is customized for the features and kinematics of each machine model (e.g., DMG Mori, Mazak, Okuma).
ESPRIT EDGE is a genuine “All-in-One” solution that covers all production machining needs in one and the same environment. The software provides comprehensive tools for multi-axis milling, including 2–5-axis paths that utilize efficient high-speed machining (High-Speed Machining). In multi-purpose turning (Mill-Turn) the system seamlessly controls the simultaneous operation of multiple spindles and revolver, as well as complex synchronizations. The software is particularly strong in Swiss-Type or long-sided milling, offering dedicated tools for efficient mass production of small and complex parts. In addition, support extends to precise wire erosion (Wire EDM) as well as modern additive manufacturing, which allows the control of metal 3D printing either as a separate process or as part of hybrid machining.
